About
Ruby is a singer, songwriter, and musician who uses her intimate lyrics and soothing vocals to connect with any audience. Moved to write songs after years spent covering songwriters such Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and Christine McVie, she shares her original music in a modern folk style while invoking nostalgia for the acoustic sounds that inspire her.
Raised in a musical family who gathered often to write songs and sing in three part harmony, she learned to read music at an early age. While immersed in piano, guitar, and clarinet lessons, she would sing in the car, hum through her chores, and belt out tunes while walking home from school—until it became clear that her favorite instrument was her own voice. She began performing on as many stages as she could find, singing through her teen years with local bands and vocal groups on Colorado stages and regional festivals. She later moved to New York to study music in Greenwich Village and received a degree in vocal performance. Singing with her own band as well as on backing vocals for countless artists in the indie NYC music scene, Ruby performed at venues in NY such as The Bitter End, Bowery Electric, 55 Bar, and Rockwood Music Hall.
After ten years on the bandstand in NYC, Ruby eventually moved to Southern California to continue songwriting. Returning to her acoustic roots and drawing inspiration from the folk-era of 1970s Los Angeles, Ruby’s work as a solo artist reflects her deep love of acoustic arrangements and folk instrumentation. Ruby’s EP The Light Behind is set for release in September 2026.
